If you have a website you can register your site with google and yahoo for free. Just go to google.com/addurl (i don't know the yahoo one) also you can google 'free engine submission' and by registering your site that can give you some sort of 'free' traffic. Make sure your meta tags have the best researched keywords and description. So, you can pull in more traffic. Another good site is http://offto.net they have something on 'free' traffic you might want to look that up.
Craigs list and other free classifieds online are good options. Just do a search on free classifieds. Learn to use the forums. They are not hard. If you can post here on Yahoo answers, you can post on a forum. Those are the best ways to get your name out. I also have a home business and do these same things.

Here are some fantastic sites, you can use your keywords in the title, and then when people are searching on Goolge they can find your site through the portals. The site does not allow spam so follow the instructions so your ads don’t get deleted.
I think none of the advertising companies would do you such a favor. You should try to look for personal/business websites that are similar to yours. You can try exchange banners with them or just links. Also, try to advertise your website through signatures links on forums close to your business etc. I think that's a good start for a new business, good luck
